Sight

I would rather
See one instant
Of blazing glory
And suffer seventy years
Of darkness for it,
Than to behold
All creation with
Earth-bound eyes
For an entire lifetime.

I would trade all complexities
For that single
Flash of rapture
And glance of eternity.
Yes, to have that sight -
A searing peace,
A painful joy -
Etched into my mind,
I would take the chance.

Torpid and grotesque,
Is lust of the world,
In comparison.
Weary is life
Deprived of light.
So with my injured gaze,
I shall leap, sing, and laugh,
For I am content
With my lot at last.
